A few words about us

Nicole Ford is from Pasadena CA and is currently the Director of Stepping in the Right Direction (STRD) where she has provided Black College Tours since 2007 to Middle School, High School and now Community College students all over the country.

Recently Nicole has partnered and provided tours with the: Urban League Los Angeles and Arizona, Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc., Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc., NAACP Anchorage Alaska Branch, multiple schools in the Los Angeles Unified School District Compton Unified School District, Inglewood Unified School District, Pasadena Unified School District, Riverside Unified School District, Long Beach Unified School District and multiple schools up in Northern California. 

Stepping in the Right Direction does over 6 tours per year during Spring Summer and Fall.

Under Stepping in the Right Direction, Nicole also provides: The Stepping in the Right Direction Black College Fair, which is going on its 7th year and was sponsored by the City of Long Beach and the UNCF in 2014 and 2015, and sponsored by the City of Carson in 2013. 

Nicole is truly committed to Historically Black Colleges & Universities where she is the President of the California HBCU Alliance, where she hosts in partnership with the County of Los Angeles, the Annual California HBCU Reunion, which this year brought out over 800 HBCU students and alumni.

In 2014, Nicole became a Region Recruiter for Paul Quinn College a Historically Black College where she has had the opportunity to recruit over 100 High School and College Transfer students, who will receive a great education with the scholarships she was able to provide to assist students in receiving a quality education.

Nicole is truly an advocate for her community and is currently the 2014-2016President of the NAACP Altadena Branch, where she promotes the importance of higher education and the platforms of the NAACP.

She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from Bethune Cookman University a Historically Black University, and is currently finishing up her Master’s Degree in Marriage &Family Therapy with an emphasis in African American Families. 

Nicole believes that every student must be committed to maximizing their potential. The Stepping in the Right Direction program is designed to support schools and other educational programs in their efforts in preparing students to successfully handle the complexities of today’s society and to enhance their self-confidence, motivation and self-esteem. Additionally, the program helps students formulate positive personal values and assists in the development of social and life skills. Our society will be better when talented individuals are working and excelling within their chosen professions.
